You can always claim it yourself, for free.

State unclaimed property programs return money to owners at no cost. Greyline Claims is a private company. We are not a government agency and are not affiliated with any state. You'd hire us for the legwork: tracking down records, preparing documents and managing the claim until it's paid.

How it works

Four steps, and we handle the paperwork.

Most people never learn that money is waiting for them. When they do, the forms and proof requirements can be confusing. That's the part we take off your plate.

We find it

We research state unclaimed property records and identify money that belongs to you, your family or your business.

We tell you everything

You'll see the amount, where it's held, and how to claim it on your own. No surprises and nothing hidden.

You choose

If you'd like our help, you sign a simple written agreement. If not, there's no cost and no obligation.

We file & follow up

We prepare and submit the claim, answer the state's questions, and stay on it until the payment is issued.

What we handle

Claims that take more than a quick form.

Some claims are simple. Many aren't. We focus on the ones where documentation, timing and follow-up make the difference.

Individuals

Forgotten bank accounts, uncashed checks, refunds, deposits and credit balances, especially after a move or a name change.

Families & heirs

Money left by a loved one who has passed. We help organize the documents states require to show who is entitled to it.

Businesses

Vendor payments, refunds, credit balances and deposits reported under your company's name, including former names and locations.

Stocks, funds & trusts

Shares, dividends, mutual fund balances and trust-owned accounts that need extra verification to release.

Fees

Simple, capped, and only when you're paid.

Our fee is a percentage of what you recover, it's agreed in writing before any work begins, and it never goes above the limit your state allows.

  • No upfront costs. No application fees, no retainers, no "processing" charges.
  • Full disclosure first. You'll know the amount, the source and how to claim it free before you sign anything.
  • State-approved agreements. For California claims we use the State Controller's Standard Investigator Agreement.
  • No payment, no fee. If the claim isn't paid, you owe us nothing.

Unclaimed money attracts scams. Here's what a legitimate recovery firm looks like, and what it doesn't.

What we do

  • Tell you exactly where the money is held
  • Encourage you to confirm it on the state's site
  • Put every term in a written agreement
  • Get paid only after you do

What we never do

  • Ask for money upfront, gift cards or wire transfers
  • Claim to be a government agency
  • Ask for bank logins or passwords
  • Pressure you to decide on the spot

FAQ

Straight answers.

Is this a scam?

It's a fair question. We never ask for money upfront, we tell you where the money is so you can verify it yourself, and we only get paid after the state pays you. If anyone asks you for a fee before you're paid, walk away.

Why would I use you instead of claiming it myself?

For a simple claim, you may not need us, and we'll tell you so. People hire us when the claim needs more: an inheritance, a business account, old addresses that are hard to prove, multiple owners, or simply no time to chase paperwork and follow-ups.

How much do you charge?

A percentage of what's recovered, agreed in writing up front and never more than your state allows. For California claims that's a maximum of 10%. There are no upfront or hidden fees.

Are you affiliated with the state?

No. Greyline Claims is a private company. State unclaimed property programs are run by state treasurers and controllers, and they return money to owners for free.

What information will you need from me?

Usually a government-issued photo ID and proof that you're the owner, such as proof of a past address. For an inheritance or a business, the state may require additional documents. We'll tell you exactly what's needed for your claim and nothing more.

How long does it take?

It depends on the state and the type of property. Simple claims can be paid within weeks. Inheritances, securities and business claims can take several months. We track the claim and keep you updated.
